LIGHTING SUPERVISOR -- RHYTHM & HUES STUDIOS
Garfield represented the first CG character R&H had done with such dense fur, and with more than 600 shots this proved to be a great challenge. With only a few months to pull this off and a team of approximately 60 lighters, the pipeline and a robust sequence lighting workflow was essential. The lighting workflow used on Garfield went on to become the basis for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS
•Reported directly to the R&H VFX Supervisor Dan Deleeuw and VFX Producer Andrea Miloro
•Responsible for look development and combing of Garfield
•Supervised texturing and look development for all CG props
•Designed and implemented framework for sequence and scene lighting comprised of several tools
•Created a comprehensive set of web pages as a guide for lighters and compositors
•Held training courses for all new lighters and weekly workshops to cover improved lighting techniques
•Acted as the point of contact for sequence supervisors for challenging shots and technical issues
•Implemented grass and fur interaction techniques used in dozens of shots
